Scouting Day

Scouting Day for Lake Antero Ice Fishing Tournament on Jan, 15th 2011

12/22/10
7:45 am
Destination: Lake Antero, Colorado
Air Temp: 13 degrees after an unusually warm 2 weeks of weather
After 40 Years of fishing these Colorado lakes I’ve never seen this much open water during the winter.
Today I was ice fishing with flies. I went to my old fishing spot after crossing three pressure ridges of open water. After reaching my spot I got on my hands and knees to check the thickness of the ice with a hatchet and it broke straight through after 1.5” of ice.
Woah!!
I’ve never seen this spot on the lake this thin during late December in all the years I’ve been fishing here. I backed out and went to deeper water which was 5 inches thick with large bodies of open water at about 100 yards further out.
Today’s Fishing Report:
Saw 15 fish
Caught 7 fish
12-15 inch Rainbow Trout
A Great Day. A Safe Day. A Blessed Day.
